Chlorophytum comosum: A Bio-Indicator for Assessing the Accumulation of Heavy Metals Present in The Aerosol Particulate Matter (PM)

The present research focuses on the use of Chlorophytum comosum as a bio-indicator able to accumulate, through its leaves, heavy metals in aerosol particulate matter (PM) city Milan (Italy). For this purpose, some specimens were exposed selected sites at University Campus for increasing periods (7, 30, 60, 128 and 165 days). collected leaves then analyzed quantify Cd, Co, Cr, Cu, Mn, Ni, Pb, Zn concentrations by inductively coupled plasma optical emission spectroscopy (ICP–OES). leaves’ surfaces also examined scanning electron microscopy with energy dispersion (SEM-EDS). has proved be good system studying accumulation metals. higher concentration Mn followed Cd Cr while Ni Pb lower concentration. Although investigated are not very far from each other, differences found. Furthermore, monitoring period considered (July 2018–December 2018) plant was proxy tracking zinc Milan’s PM.
